This is the cake topper from my childhood, best friend’s wedding cake. The top tier of the cake was made of pancakes because my friend LOVES pancakes. Fun, huh?

23 SepTwo of my toes that lost sensation after trotting around Vegas in 4 inch heels is coming back. Our suitcases are nearly unpacked. There is a pile of wedding gifts blocking our doorway, but I’m not complaining.
We’re back from getting married and spending a few days in beauiful Aspen. My entire wedding day was fun and gosh, perfect! I’m relieved its all over and most importantly happy that the day didn’t whiz by and feel like it never happened. I was really worried that would be the case.
Dizzy Update (again)
15 SepExcept, I’m not feeling to dizzy anymore.
Get a manicure and pedicure
I have a fancy mani and pedi scheduled for this afternoon at my favorite spa. I can’t wait to get there and relax!
Get my hair colored
Last night I said goodbye to my blond, summer highlights. This new salon I went to was awesome. I started out with a color specialist who swiped color on my roots (see photo below with painted roots). Then I went into the waiting lounge and lounged for a bit. Next another colorist pulled the color through the rest of my hair while I laid back with my feet up. Then that processed for a bit longer. After that I was shampooed, with my feet up again. The neck and scalp massage was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I swear I passed out for a moment. It was that good. While my hair was being blow dried, a nice girl came to give me a hand massage. Um, hello? Why am I just now going to this place?? I walked out of that salon looking and feeling more like myself.
Pack up the wedding peripherals
Working on it…
Make a “Day of ER Kit” (sewing kit, double stick tape, etc.)
Big sister to the rescue! My sister called me yesterday to let me know she’s preparing an ER kit for me. Then she decided to have her baby 2 days early, so I might need to pick up an ER kit while I’m out and about today. No harm done, I’d rather have a new niece than a little kit anyway.
Print boarding passes and long-term parking information
Done and done.

Done.
Last dress fitting
I went for my last fitting on Friday. The past three times I was shown to the fitting room right away. This time I sat and waited for 30 minutes. I was so nervous. At one point I was pretty sure they had spilled coffee on my dress and were frantically trying to clean it. Turns out the seamstress was just pressing the dress, even though it wasn’t all the way pressed. Hmmm. I’m glad that’s over with. The dress fits like a glove and I can’t wait to wear it on Saturday!!

9 SepSo how did your to-do list go today, you ask. Well, let me tell you.

Pick up my wedding ring – At 5:00 I left work to pick up Kat Daddy from his office so he could come with me to pick up my ring from the jeweler. They closed at 6, so we had just enough time to get downtown, park and get to the jewelers before their day ended. We waited behind several other happy, to be wed couples and waited our turn. A woman by the name of Jennifer so enthusiastically pulled my ring out of a little plastic baggy. I took one glance at it and started whining like a little kid, “it doesn’t match, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa”. Jennifer said, “when’s your wedding?” I replied, “one week from Saturday.” Jennifer said, “shit!” I thought her word of choice was very appropriate. Jennifer eagerly moved us over to a case to find a match, then she sized the width of my ring, jotted some notes on a post it and informed me their store is closed tomorrow for Rosh Hashanah. Super! I’m so glad my ring probably won’t be ready for my wedding. And even if they do pull a new ring out of their bleeps, I’m sure it won’t be right. I’ve lost all faith in them.
Pick up the Mr.’s tux – The same “know it all” who helped Kat Daddy order his tux rental greeted us as we walked into Men’s Wearhouse this evening. She pulled his tux and had him try it on. He looked like a kid going to prom. I honestly didn’t have any words when I saw Kat Daddy circling around on the 1 foot carpeted stage surrounded with a wall of mirrors. Supposedly this was the nicest tux they rented. Kat Daddy wasn’t sold on the jacket and hated the MC Hammer-like pants. I asked for a new jacket because the one Kat Daddy tried on was dirty. We walked out of there not feeling that great about the tux. Kat Daddy asked me which way Nordstrom was. Nordstrom? Nordstrom? I love that store! In we walked straight for the men’s department. A nice salesman, Nick told Kat Daddy his jacket size just by looking at him, pulled a snazzy tux jacket off a hanger and put it on Kat Daddy. I had one word for him, “WOW!”. What the heck were we doing at Men’s Warthouse? A quick visit to the tailor and a even speedier checkout with Nick and we were done! Kat Daddy is now the proud owner of a new tux. Who’s going to call Men’s Wackyhouse tomorrow to tell them they can keep their dirty tux? NOT IT!

Hair comes the bride…all dressed in white
24 AugThe wedding nightmares continue. This time I get to Las Vegas and I forgot to get my highlighted, summer hair dyed back to my natural shade of brown. I woke up and dialed the salon right away. My hair consultation appointment is tonight. Then we’ll schedule my actual hair appointment for closer to the wedding, which is 20 some odd days away. EEK!
Phew!
7 AugI feel like I’ve made strides in the last 24 hour hours in terms of checking things off my wedding to-do list. Last night I took a ride with Kamal to Best Buy. There was a bridal store next door. I told him I wanted to go there really fast. So we parted ways, he to Best Buy, me to the bridal store. I just wanted to take a peek at their veil selection and ended up finding the perfect veil! Yay!
Today we woke up, got ready and went to a jewelry store to order our wedding bands. Done and done. The best part is the rings will be ready before our big day (6 weeks away today!).
I just got home from my first alterations fitting. The hardest part was getting there in Kamal’s “bat mobile ” as I like to call it. He’s gone for the weekend hunting and took my car. His car doesn’t like steep driveways, nor does it like to go into first gear. UGH! Nonetheless, I made it there on time. The bridal shop staff was very friendly and helpful. They pinned the straps to my dress and suggested hemming the bottom a bit. I go back in two weeks for another fitting. Yay again!
Now I feel like I can begin my weekend.
My Wedding Invitations
24 JulA week or two before we moved, I established the design, colors, font, paper, size and printing style of my invitiations. Then we arrived in Austin and I didn’t have my printer or a scanner to get my design details in. So my invites were finished exactly 8 weeks before our wedding date, the time when many organized brides and grooms have their invites either in the mail or in the hands for their guests.
When my invitations arrived, they were in a huge box. I was surprised and wondered what the heck was in there. So I cut through the tape on the outer, cardboard shipping box to see. Inside I found a beautiful brown box. When I lifted the lid my heart was pounding. I was so excited to see the finished product. Each element of my invitations was hand wrapped in pretty paper that matched the lining of the brown box. They even included envelope licking water so I didn’t have to get paper cuts on my tongue.
I was happy my invites were in hand, but distraught that I still had to get the outer envelopes addressed. I had lined up a nice woman in San Francisco that had amazing hand writing. Then I found out she was on vacation the last two weeks of this month. Then I found another gal out of state and was concerned about the additional shipping time to and from her calligraphy studio. Feeling hopeless, I Googled, “wedding calligraphy Austin Texas” and to my relief a gal by the name of Bailey’s website popped up. I quickly emailed her that Friday night. She got back to me the next day and it was on. I would drop my envelopes off to her on my way to work Monday morning and she’d have the invites done in 4 days.
Monday morning rolled around and my trusty navigation led me to her home. Bailey and I chatted for about 30 minutes about color, font style, size, etc. I left feeling better, but still slightly anxious. I still had to get my invitation weighed and figure out postage.
So that’s just what I did. I went to the local post office downtown and stood in line for 10 minutes. 10 minutes in the post office line feels like three hours. The nice woman that helped me told me my postage would cost a dollar five. Then I made the poor thing track down 3, 5, and ten cent stamps. Then another 40, 44 cent stamps. She was very patient considering there was a long line behind me. I’m sure she gets annoying brides looking for certain postage all the time. At least I hope so!
4 days past and Bailey emailed me first thing that morning. I called my manager to see if I could race to pick up my invites really quickly. Of course she said, yes so I scurried just as fast as I could. When Bailey showed me my addressed envelopes, my heart sang and the corners of my lips stretched to my earlobes. The envelopes looked FANFREAKIN’Tasic!
I raced back to work and waited for the lunch hour to roll around so I could stuff, seal, and put the postage on all my invites. I reached that point and realized, I want to get these invitations out today. Bailey told me to get my postage hand cancelled so the post office wouldn’t have to run the envelopes through their machines which can ruin and them up. I was so nervous. I read some stories about other brides who would go to countless post offices only to have them say they don’t hand cancel. I had high hopes and went to the post office later that day. I stood in line for about 7 minutes. This time it felt like 6 hours. Tick, tock, tick, tock. I had a box full of my invitations in my hands. I hoped and prayed the post office clerk would allow me to hand cancel my invites. Finally I got up to the counter. The same woman who helped weigh my invite was lucky enough to see me again, or not. Actually she was super. I asked her if I could get my mail hand cancelled. She said, “yes, but you’re going to have to leave them with me so I can do them later.” I said, “Sure! Actually can I just hand cancel them here right now?” She said, “Yes, if you want to”. I grabbed her stamp and got to work. It didn’t take me long since I only had 40 envelopes. Then the post office offered me a job and I start on Monday. Just kidding, but I probably would enjoy working there.
I’m so glad this part of the process is behind me. Now I just have to see if any get returned. I made my sister promise me she’d call me as soon as she gets my invite so she can tell me if any of the corners of the envelope are bent or if there are any marks or whatever on it. I did make one mistake and that is that I should have had an envelope addressed and sent to myself. Oh well, next time.
I have pictures of all of this, but obviously some readers here are expecting invites and I don’t believe in any sneak peeks when it comes to things like this. Someday I’ll post some pictures, I promise.
Relieved and ready to enjoy my weekend!

Wedding Shoe Extravaganza
22 NovOpening 6 shoe boxes was exciting. Each box was filled with tissue paper, special thinga-ma-boppers to keep the shoes straight and some even came with shoe bags – I love that!
Here are the 6 contestants all anxiously waiting to be tried on. Wait, I think I was the anxious one.
I like this glittery shoe. It is fun and very vegas-like. However, it was huge and wide. Back to Zappos it goes.
I love the color of this shoe and would love if this color would accept my invitation to my wedding. It’s delicious. This shoe is a possibility.
Blah! Ekk. Me no likey. This shoe is too plain. I hate it. Goodbye. Enjoy your flight back to Zappos.
This little guy looks used. This one was also too plain and too wide.
Although this blue color will not be part of my wedding colors, I thought having a blue shoe would be fun as my “something blue”. Kat Daddy disliked the shoe on the right. He thought the rhinestones were cheap looking. I thought they looked amazing. The blue shoe on the left is one of my fav. It is great except for two things: 1) my toes are narrow and kinda fall through the peep area, 2) the shoe doesn’t really go with my dress. I suppose it could work…
