Dana’s Visit – Day 2

28 Apr

The second day of her visit was Earth Day.  Starbucks gave out free coffee and tea to those who brought their own mug.  I took my one and only travel mug and Dana brought a regular mug.  She had to walk extra slow going home because she didn’t have a lid.  I offered her my travel mug, she declined. After filling up our mugs with free Joe, we went to the gym.  Dana ate her pumpkin bread while I sat on a weight machine texting and watching Down Home with the Neely’s.  We were tired after that.

Next we drove 2 hours to College Station, home of Texas A&M.  After learning that Texas A&M and UT don’t like each other, I decided to NOT buy an A&M shirt.  I don’t want to get flipped off in Austin.

After checking out the campus and bookstore, we stopped in a sushi joint before hitting the road again.

Our evening ended with an evening out at Paggi House with our neighbors.  It was a gorgeous night to eat outside.

The car from Entourage?!?!?

PB&J foie gras.  Yes, please!

Dana’s Visit – Day 1

26 Apr

She text’ed me when she landed.  I was late picking her up.  I takes longer than 15 minutes to get to the airport when there’s traffic.  She said she didn’t mind because she was soaking up the sun.  First we drove back to my place.  She particulary liked this one part of town where hundreds of Easter rabbit pinata’s were for sale.

Next we went to Whole Foods for a late afternoon snack.  We sat on the roof and watched a girl wearing an old- fashioned nightgown do strange things with her boyfriend.  We didn’t stare…for long.

Next we walked home.

She brought Kat Daddy and I Easter treats.  He ate them all.  Oh wait, that was me.

We gave her the tour of our place.  Then she fell asleep.  I think she got bored.

When she woke up, I took her to South Congress, where we ate fried risotto balls and Amy’s ice cream.

This is why…

14 Apr

I have to eat non-fat plain yogurt for breakfast and an apple for lunch.  Because BBQ for dinner is so yummy!

The day summer knocked spring out

10 Apr

Yesterday we attended the track and field competition at the Texas Relays.  Summer also attended.  Just ask the sunburn on my legs and back.  In addition to the heat, summer brought back her mosquito friends.  Just as we sat down with our Dallas cousins for some tacos, the cute creek next to the taco stand had them little blood suckers buzzing all around.  I managed to only get bit twice.

I think summer should let spring be around for a few more weeks…or at least until my burn and bites heal.

Five Things

8 Apr

Eating out every night this week and not caring.  (See previous post.)

Rearranging the living room furniture made for a comfy, cozy, friendly living space.  Loves it!

Finally hanging a mirror I bought months ago.  Thanks, Kat Daddy!

Finding a new recipe to try this weekend.  Pancakes with roasted apples, anyone?

You can find the recipe here.

It’s Friday!  This week has been busy and crappy.  I’m glad the weekend is here.

TGIF!!!!

FOOD!

7 Apr

Who doesn’t love a sloppy hamburger…with hashbrowns on it!

Barbie Q ice cream.  That’s right.  You heard me, BBQ flavored ice cream.  This is Texas afterall.

This is a Mexican Korean fusion burritto.  It’s filled with tender, meaty, short rib meat, suated kimchi and wait for it, wait for it

…french fries!

Rabbit food.

Good one!

2 Apr

So this was my Facebook profile for Apirl Fool’s Day.  I hid it from the parents.  Kat Daddy was sure his parents would be very sad to hear it was just a joke.

Notable reactions…

“Are you sure you’re not preggers?”.

“…is this an April Fool’s joke? I am ready to go shopping but I think your toying with my emotions.”

“too many emotions for a Friday a.m. – disbelief, joy, OMG!, WHAT??, grrrrrr . . .”

“how did you get your name on the photo?”

I’d say my joke was successful.  Were you an April Fool yesterday?

Lovely Evening

28 Mar

In a lovely city.

You don’t live here?

What a pity.

High Heels Hazard

9 Mar

I ran to the elevator hoping to catch it before those behind me caught up. You see as I came down the stairs at my office’s parking garage, my right shoe heel caught the cuff of my left pant leg. Yep, you can only picture what the rest of the fall looked like. I jumped up faster than I fell and bolted for the door. I was pleading with the gods that nobody saw. The woman washing the windows looked my way with concern. The sound of my crash was loud. I asked her to wipe the coffee splashes off my arm. She had a towel in her hand so it only made sense, right? My pants survived, my shoes are a little scuffed. My computer bag has some holes on the bottom of it. I think I pulled my right quadriceps and my knees are BURNING, scraped and red. I’ve tripped in public before. Eventually the embarrassment will wear off. In the meantime, I’m taking the elevator on the opposite side of the parking garage.

Sunny Day

7 Feb

Our day began very early.  At 4:30am to be exact.  We were on our way home after spending the weekend celebrating Kat Daddy’s grandfather’s life.  Despite the sad circumstances, it was wonderful to see family and enjoy each others company for a few days.   A little plane took us from central California to Phoenix where we took another plane to Austin.   Here’s where our day got exciting.  I noticed a fancy couple sitting in the corner at our gate, but didn’t want to stare (yet).  That and I had some breakfast to chow down on.  Finally it was our turn to board.  I looked ahead of me and looked at Kat Daddy and was all, “uh, that’s Jesse James and Kat Von D”.  He said he was thinking the same thing!  I’m usually not one for paying more than the ticket price for an airplane seat, but in this case was so excited Kat Daddy had upgraded us when we booked our flight.  We were only 3 rows behind the famous couple.  I pretended to not watch them the entire flight.  They were just sleeping like normal people.  They joked a bit with each other as we hit a bit of turbulence during our descent.  Kat Daddy was so embarrassed by my star struckedness.  I wasn’t being loud or obnoxious and it wasn’t obvious to anyone else that I was excited.  I’m fully aware of how my brain stops working, my tongue hangs out the side of my mouth lifeless, and I start to drooling when I see a famous person.  I’m learning to manage this problem.  Just need to see some more famous people is all.

So after the flight we headed out the front of the airport at the same time as “them”. Kat had a seat outside, while Jesse stopped near baggage claim.  I was hoping to see real life paparazzi, but perhaps they’re not famous enough for that.  Disappointing.

Anywho, we came home to the most delicious summer, I mean winter weather.  It was so nice that we threw down our bags and went for a walk around the lake.  The pedestrian bridge mentioned here, is finally finished!  There was even a movie being recorded on the bridge as we walked by.

We’re both terribly exhausted from traveling and took a nice nap during the Super Bowl.  It’s so nice to be home!

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.  Eat In N Out Burger!!

Proof.

Those not on the trail today will be ousted by the city.  Not really, but sort of just tells you how many people were out enjoying the sunshine.  It was great!

More sunshine enjoyers.
