St. Patrick’s Day

17 Mar

7:48: I Started my Saturday early.  You never know how many people are also eager to go to 9 AM spin class.  Today I didn’t want to be the one to find out the hard way.

8:40: My first stop on the way to the gym was Starbucks.  It was quiet.  What a nice change from the usual lines and noise in there.

8:45: Select my usual bike in the back row, hop on and begin warming up.

9:00: Spin begins.  I realize it’s St. Patrick’s Day and I forgot to wear green.  By the end of class, I’ve got a sweat drenched shirt and the monitor on the bike said I burned 450 calories.  Best post-pasta dinner workout ever!

10:00: Shower

11:45: Go to a breakfast held in our apartments leasing office.  The so-called breakfast was sponsored by a cleaners business.  You had to ask for a breakfast taco.  What kind of breakfast is that and who only eats ONE taco?!  Rude.  We will not be using them as cleaners.

12:00: Finally get all my pictures from Honduras in a web album.  What a chore!  I’d been procrastinating for three weeks.

2:00: Drive Kat Daddy to Fry’s Electronics so he can check out a laptop.  Weird thing is, he just bought a new laptop last week!  I guess he’s still on the hunt for the perfect computer.

4:00: Eat at a Pho restaurant.  We had a coupon, buy one entrée get the second half off.  Cha-ching!  Then we made a return to the Walmarts.

6:00:  Back home we hang out, watch TV, and declare a Saturday night in.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

TGIF

16 Mar

Spring is in the air!  Earlier this week I walked out of an air conditioned building into a glorious 80 degree day.  The warm air  flattened the goose bumps on my arms like a hot iron to a wrinkly shirt.

<tree with budding blossoms that I took a picture of a few weeks back on a morning walk.>

I’m looking forward to organizing piles of papers.  I despise clutter, especially in the form of paper!

<i’ll be using file folders from the container store.  i picked up some in the grey color.>

My new favorite snack.  A mango protein shake.  So yummy!

Happy Weekend Everybody!!

I’m BACKKKKKKK!!!!!

28 Feb

I’m back from a fun vacation!  No more dieting or tracking food for me.  I hope I don’t gain a ton of weight now.  Yikes!  So you’re probably wondering, “Did she lose those 5 pounds?”.  Nope!  I gained a half a pound.  Oh, well.  It was a challenge and fun at the same time so who cares if I’ve still got 5.5 pounds to go.

I think someone took a picture of me on a beach while on vacation.  Maybe I could find that picture and post it.  You can be the judge of the .5 pounds.  Perhaps it was muscle???  NOT!

This is a picture from a remote island we took a boat to.  It was a little piece of heaven.

Kitchen Disasters

14 Jan

Here was me this morning.

Today I’m making Roasted Garlic and Broccoli Soup.

Look!  I already measured out the lentils and beans and washed the broccoli!!Image Image

Here was me about an hour ago.

Stupid soup tastes like salty, broccoli water.

Down the drain it goes.

Here was me this morning:

I’m also going to make Peanut Butter Whoopie Pies!

About an hour ago I dumped them in the garbage because they tasted like chocolate cardboard.  YUK!

As my mama always says, you win some you lose some.

It’s TV Time!

25 Oct

Finally my TV watching habit is paying off!  A few months ago I received a packet from Nielsen, a company that studies consumer habits.  I filled out a survey and pocketed the crisp 5 dollars that was included.  Today when I looked in my mailbox, I instantly grabbed for the large orange envelope.  Before I made it to the elevator I had 30 bucks in my hand! As soon as I could I read through my next challenge from Nielsen.  I will be participating in a TV watching diary. Yippeee!!!  Who gets this excited to be a part of a survey?!  I do!

Noah, where’s your arc?

9 Oct

The sky finally gave in at 5 AM.  The rain smacked our windows with no shame.  We got out of bed to witness it.  After being in a drought for some time now, it was great to see the streets fill up with water.  Flash floods — AWESOME!  Bring ‘em on.  I think our dry state received between 2 to 4 inches.  We’re thrilled.  It’s cloudy and in the 70s.  We’re thrilled.

Lottery

28 Sep

I bought a lottery ticket.  It’s my only chance at getting a $17.4 million dollar beachfront villa in Barbados.  Speaking of chances, I learned in a statistics class that my chance of winning the lottery is 1 in 18 million.

“So you’re telling me there’s a chance?”.

Name that movie.

I didn’t win.  Didn’t even come close.

Homemade beef jerky in minutes!

9 Sep

First take desired amount of braised beef you prepared for dinner the night before and would like to reheat for dinner tonight and put in a microwave safe dish.  Next hit the microwave time for 3 minutes even though you have the intention of waiting next to the microwave to grab it after about 30 seconds.

After 5 seconds wander to your bedroom and decide to try on that skirt you bought a few weeks ago in a size too small and try it on to see if it fits yet.  It doesn’t fit yet.

Next apply moose to your nearly dry hair like you’re going to curl it all fancy, but know deep down its going back in a pony tail sans the curls.

Find yourself back in the kitchen wondering what smells like burnt rubber and cow hide.  Open microwave to see your homemade beef jerky!

Bon appetite!

Pancakes and Polyester

14 Aug

So remember when I mentioned that I like the blog Cupcakes and Cashmere?  Well I decided to try out one of her fancy tricks shown here.

First I painted my nails with Essie “Meet me at Sunset”.  I picked it up at the grocery store this morning.  Notice how I’m working on a magazine.  Let’s just say I’m not the neatest when it comes to, well, anything.

I started out with a brush, then I decided to just dump the glitter on my nail.

Hmmm, that looks like crap.  That’s why I’m Pancakes and Polyester and not Cupcakes and Cashmere.

Little Miss Sunshine

3 Aug

The other day I was flipping through the channels and noticed the movie, Little Miss Sunshine was on.  It was the  end of the movie, the very best part.  Little Miss Sunshine reminds us so much of my niece, Sophia.  She’s spunky and silly just like Little Miss Sunshine.

This morning as I walked into work, the garbage man was making so much noise lifting the dumpster in his truck.  I thought of Sophia who has hated loud noises since before she could talk.

Later today, I recieved a picture of Little Miss Sophia.  Her auntie took her to Jamba Juice.  She plugged her ears when the blenders were turned on.  Too loud.  Here she is sipping her Jamba Juice, wearing pink hair extensions she won at Chuckie Cheese.
