Kendra Scott, will you be my friend?

24 Aug

She ran out the door and yelled to one of her sales girls, “Call Alex.  Tell him I’ll be home in time to kiss the boys.”  She slung her brown leather bag over her shoulder and headed out the door.  Turquoise earrings nestled in 14 carat gold were the perfect accent to her yellow chiffon dress.  I was at the Color Bar at Kendra Scott’s flagship store in Austin, Texas getting my own custom turquoise gems set in earrings when I watched the Kendra Scott dash off to her boys.

It’s fashion week in Austin.  Tonight was a party at Kendra Scott’s store in honor of fashion week and to show off her marvelous fall collection.  I’ve been dying for a pair of turquoise earrings for some time and took advantage of getting them on this oh so hot August night.

Pictures are not so great of quality due to my not so awesome camera phone.  This super nice sales girl made my earrings.  I didn’t catch her name.  Let’s call her Snooki (she told me she was Italian).

I selected my set of stones from a slew of choices.

Look at the cute little pouch they were packaged in.  That’s a coupon behind it — SCORE!  I’m going back!!

TA DA!  The finished product.  I’m so proud of my custom jewelry!

Do you like what I’m wearing?  You too can make your own pair of Danielle style earrings here.

P.S.  Kat Daddy, I’ll have this for my birthday, k?

Pancakes and Polyester

14 Aug

So remember when I mentioned that I like the blog Cupcakes and Cashmere?  Well I decided to try out one of her fancy tricks shown here.

First I painted my nails with Essie “Meet me at Sunset”.  I picked it up at the grocery store this morning.  Notice how I’m working on a magazine.  Let’s just say I’m not the neatest when it comes to, well, anything.

I started out with a brush, then I decided to just dump the glitter on my nail.

Hmmm, that looks like crap.  That’s why I’m Pancakes and Polyester and not Cupcakes and Cashmere.

Beauty Fave #1

15 Nov

Do you have favorite beauty products that you can’t live without?  You do?  Me too.  Here’s my #1.

When we moved to Texas in June, my oily skin was oiler than ever thanks to the heat and humidity.  I had to make changes to my makeup bag and fast.  After many years of wearing powder as my foundation, I moved back to an old favorite, Clinique’s Superfit liquid foundation.  This formula is wonderful.  The shade is perfect for my complexion.  The foundation goes on smooth and dries like it belongs on my skin.  By bedtime, my skin isn’t shiny at all.  It’s a miracle formula, I tell you!  I have three bottles of it in my make up bag.  That’s just how much I love it.

Hair comes the bride…all dressed in white

24 Aug

The wedding nightmares continue.  This time I get to Las Vegas and I forgot to get my highlighted, summer hair dyed back to my natural shade of brown.  I woke up and dialed the salon right away.  My hair consultation appointment is tonight.  Then we’ll schedule my actual hair appointment for closer to the wedding, which is 20 some odd days away.  EEK!

Ugly Holiday Sweater

17 Dec

As I strolled in the break room this morning to fill up my mug, a bright golden- rod color caught my eye. It was a pair of corduroy pants. No need for coffee today, those pants just woke me up.

I couldn’t help but notice the hunter green and navy sweater that was almost as wrong as the bottom half. I think the red dickey really helped pull the whole outfit together.

Perhaps these corduroy owner’s holiday party had applied the popular “Ugly Holiday Sweater” theme and this gentleman was taking it to the next level with his ugly holiday corduroys? Funny thing is his surrounding colleagues apparently never got the memo. They were all dressed to fashion police code.

Sixty Three

1 Oct

I have $63 in my checking account. Oh, and pay day was yesterday. Saving for a wedding is hard especially when I see these cute items that would look great in my fall wardrobe.

P.S. The remarks on the pictures are for the clothing, not the models. However, if I were a male I’d totally be talking about the ladies.

Mother of the Bride

15 Jan

Do bride’s pick out what their mother’s wear to their wedding? Not that I don’t trust my mom’s fashion sense, but she did send me an email with this dress.

Of course she was completely kidding. Not that the outfit is totally hideous or anything. I just think eyes will be drawn to the swirly looking hat. If she even tried to wear that Kentucky Derby get up to my big day, she’d take a seat in the kitchen with the caters. Wow. I sound like a Bridezilla!

By the way, if you’ll be attending a costume party and are interested in the outfit above, you can find it here.

Diggin’

8 Oct

Here are things that I’m currently diggin’.

Dark nail polish. This trend has been seen on nails and toes for quite sometime. I finally made my way to the drugstore and bought a bottle of Maybelline Express Finish in Mocha Blast. I’ve received much compliments on my nails. Who’d have thought a four dollar bottle of polish could provide such a confidence boost?

Crisp fall weather. Yes, I still miss summer, but the change of season is nostalgic. I’m diggin’ the changing color of the trees and was happy to get some rain last weekend.

Apples. Especially Fuji apples! Apples are such a good snack providing vitamin C and mucho fiber. Delicious and nutritious!

Johnson’s Softlotion in Melt Away Stress. What’s not to love about a lotion that melts your stress? The lotion absorbs quickly, has a really nice light scent and leaves your skin silky smooth.

Oprah. Okay, so I’ve always loved Oprah, but just recently I’ve realized that without fail her programs are great! She’s uncovered child molesters, provided financial advice during these hard times and interview the hottest celebrity’s. Why don’t we elect Oprah for President?

Now tell me what you’re diggin’ these days? I’m also looking for recommendations on the latest and greatest.
