There is a strange and bizarre heat wave going on in my neck of the woods. It was so hot yesterday evening that the power blew out for a few hours. Just as Kat Daddy exclaimed “I haven’t played video games all week”, he powered up his Xbox, ran over to turn on the AC and buhshhhhhhhhh the power went out. So I laughed at the irony of him trying to unwind and stay cool and then having the electricity quit. We jumped in the car and headed downtown. The usual 5 minute drive took about 10. None of the street lights were working and as luck would have it, it was rush hour. We passed Jack in the Box and all the workers were standing outside. I began to worry that the restaurant we were headed to might not have power either.
We started naming off all the activities we could not do if we had to go back home. I found myself even asking if the internet would work. It wouldn’t because we’re hooked up to a wireless router which is powered by electricity. I thought about what we would eat for dinner. I had no idea what we would do without the oven or microwave. I couldn’t even take the opportunity to catch up on laundry if I wanted to. I began to loose hope thinking about how we were going to die of starvation and boredom.
Just as we pulled up to the restaurant we both cried in relief, “THEIR LIGHTS ARE ON! THEIR LIGHTS ARE ON!” We sat our sweaty rears at a table and stayed there cooling off for the next three and half hours. Our bill was $70 by the time we left. I’ll be sending the bill to Pacific Gas and Electric for reimbursement. I’ll let you know how that goes.
